The yearly Poster-Contest for the official banner representing the Carnaval Latino in Las Palmas was decided and the winner under 63 competitors awarded: Grafic-Designer and Carnival-Blogger Ruyman Rodriguez wons with his design "Plumardina", which represents from now on the 2011 official carnival logo. Plumardina is a mix of the two words Pluma (plume) and Sardina (pilchard) – so the Poster shows the plume as Symbol for Masquerade as also for für Travesty and the Sardine as Symbol for the traditional Carnivals-End-celebrity with the funeral of the Sardine.read more about Carnival 2011 | back to Las palmas startpage

All about Gran Canarias capital: detailed reviews, sightseeing, weather, fotos, webcams and much more ...
You will hardly find another city in Spain that offers to her citizens and visitors such a wide variety of different attractions: beautiful and clean Las Canteras Beach, a lively Old Town which is definitely worth a visit, enjoyable shopping and entertainment districts. Only one or two kilometres away you have the choice between sun beds and paragliders, a stroll through the Old Town "vegueta" and a dive to a reef. All of this, however, is not exotic luxury. You can reach Las Palmas de Gran Canaria very easily, fast and at low costs – still, it is far from being overcrowded by tourists. After arriving at Gando Airport Las Palmas (LPA), almost all tourists on the island turn south. This is why the tourists on the beautiful and well looked-after "Las Canteras beach" are always a modest minority.
A holiday in Las Palmas has many advantages when compared to the South of Gran Canaria:
- good prices for accomodation in hotels, apartments or pensions
- economical, authentic and diversified eating and drinking in the restaurants and bars
- shopping is much cheaper than in the South while offering a wider range
- numerous types of sports such as surfing, diving, paragliding and many more
- a wide variety of interesting events, festivals and cultural events the whole year through
Las-Palmas-24.com does not only complement the typical travel guide in book-form, it offers much more than simply a good travelogue: interactive city maps and satellite maps give you an overview – accurate to the metre – where you can find viewpoints, sights and recommended restaurants. Additionally, we offer daily up-to-date reports, photos and news about all types of events, cultural events and other attractions in Spain’s most Southern metropolis.
