Views from Pico de Bandama and a hike arround the "Caldera de Bandama"

The most spectacular natural monument near Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The name ‘Bandama’ probably comes from a Flemish merchant and resident of Gran Canaria, Daniel Van Damme, who owned vineyards around the Bandama Crater in the 16th century. With a diameter of almost 1000 metres, the Caldera de Bandama is the most impressive volcanic caldera of the island of Gran Canaria, near the villages of Monte Lentiscal and Marzagan, just a few kilometres from the capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Together with the Pico de Bandama, it forms the natural monument of Bandama. The caldera was formed by volcanic eruptions that probably began around 4000 to 5000 years ago. The last eruption took place around 1970 years ago and is therefore probably the last volcanic eruption on Gran Canaria.
